MATA Offers 25 Cent Bus, MATAplus and Trolley Rides on Code Red Ozone Days
MATA will offer 25 cent rides on the bus, MATAplus and trolley whenever the Memphis-Shelby County Health Department issues a Code Red Ozone alert.
A Code Red alert means the amount of ground-level ozone in our air has reached unhealthy levels. Any active children or adults, and people with respiratory disease such as asthma should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion; everyone else should limit prolonged outdoor exertion. Exposure to unhealthy levels of ozone can be described as a ‘sunburn to the lungs,’ because airways become inflamed and can cause a variety of health problems, including respiratory problems and even permanent lung disease. MATA has implemented new route changes that are currently in effect. The following routes were improved: Route 10, Route 31, Route 46, Route 52, and Route 81. These improvements have been added to the system map as well.
