MATA is currently upgrading and expanding its shelter
program. MATA erects and maintains shelters that do not have
advertising. MATA also has an agreement with a private contractor
under which the private contractor erects and maintains shelters at no
cost to MATA in exchange for the right to place advertising on the
shelters. MATA receives a share of advertising revenues. The
contractor also maintains the shelters that are owned by MATA
Existing Shelters
MATA
currently has a total of about 330 shelters in various locations
throughout the service area. MATA maintains about 100 of the shelters
while the remaining are maintained by contract with our private
contractor.
Planned Enhancements
MATA plans to purchase and install an additional 25 shelters in 2009. These shelters will not have advertising.
